But whether the sun is cracking the flags, or the pavements are flooded, this selection of photographs by Alan Novelli is guaranteed to make you feel that summer is here. Alan’s day job is as an airline pilot, taking holidaymakers to some of the most beautiful parts of the world, but he’s well aware of the beauty closer to home too, as these pictures prove.
He travelled the length and breadth of the region to capture these wonderful images of the start of a Lakeland summer. ‘I have been all over the world, but there is something very special about the Lake District,’ he said.
‘The natural beauty is obvious but the light is constantly changing and that means taking photographs here is a different experience every time. Within a few minutes a view can go from looking brooding or uplifting, depending on the way the light hits the water or the fell.
It’s always awe-inspiring, though. ‘I was up quite early in the morning to take some of these shots, while others didn’t work quite as well until the sun was lower in the sky in the late afternoon. It’s worth getting up early when the views are this good, though. Who needs to go abroad?’
